Brand the chair or make the chair the brand.....
Why put branding on the chair when I can make the chair the branding!
I want to get a grungy art deco kind of feel to the branding photos, so I incorporated the slightly funky clothing/looks with a grungy/arty setting....
I finalized my branding ideas then organized a few of my friend to give me a hand.....

1:1 X Board Study
1:1 X Board Study
Now that I have figured out all the dimensions and cut sizes, I wanted to make a 1:1 moch up to test everything before I made my final. I made the stool taller and the seat smaller, and figured out a way to hide all the exposed cardboard + the locking system.
Cutting the X Board...to hide exposed cardboard.....
I based alot of the dimensions of this stool on the golden ratio, one of Fibonacci favorite concepts. 1 : 1.6180339887. For example the leg height of the stool is 44o and the length of the leg detail, where the leg curves back on itself is 272. This is just one of the places i used the golden ratio to improve my design.
Result...
New Locking system...
The only problems I found were; one the top corners of the design were under to much pressure and they ripped, two the locking system works really well but if its not perfect then the chair will be slightly wobbly, because the chair will open the more the locking system wears. I need to resolve these issues for the final chair!! arrrrr pressure, I'm down to my final X board.

Branding - Trying to catch the spirit of Melbourne underground art scene.
To give myself a break from X board (because my hand a really starting to hurt, especially under my finger nails ?!?!). I wanted to start doing some research regarding branding. For the final presentation our chair has to be brand ready, and thus placed as an appropriate situation to advertise the Melbourne DTM. So I want to advertise the festival while incorporating my design.
I've gathered some images that I'm going to use to brand the stool and incorporate it within the Melbourne Art scene to entice the board, that will be picking the final design. The design will completely for fill it's function and be perfect for advertising the Melbourne DTM.
If there is a few thing that I have learn t.
*its that sex sells
*everyone like "pretty" things
*cultural thing and really alluring

Half scale x board test.
Half scale x board test.
Now that I figured out all the cut dimensions, I wanted to make sure they actually worked on my design. So I got some of my X board and made a half scale model.
Process.
First I cut out the basic shape...
Cutting the strips off the inside to allow curving, I played with a heat gun in the workshop but I didn't have access to one at home. I found that a hair dryer works just as well....
Then I cut out the corner detail...
Thus I folded it up....
But I found that there was way to much tension in the joints. So I went back and create a few "V" cuts to relive some of the tension.....
And then I folded it up again, and alot of the uneccesary tention was gone......
Even at half scale it could support my weight with ease. I still have a few problems with the design I dislike the exposed locking system. This design works so well because its simple and thus the shape should be simple, I need to internalize the locking sytem and find a way to hide the exposed edges. I want the user to only see the outside section of the X board, keeping it smooth. The proportions and a little off as well. The shape is too square, it need to be high and the seat needs to be smaller. Forward march!!
