Yes Robots are fun!

Robots are never bad. :)

You could say its a preparing yourself for the future! I am getting ready for the Z generation, which will be half bionic! I must admit that would be sweet~~~ and scary at the same time!

Here are some more robot renders, WHY he asks? Because I

Has been awhile!

Well I went off and got a job which pulled the brakes on a lot of my personal project and limited the content I could put on my blog. But don't threat im back with vengeance.

Im now working at a POS Industrial Design firm called Gush Creative. I'm learning faster then when neo uploaded kungfu not his brain in the matrix (yes with the rod downloading into his brain, "i know fungfu").

Im gaining experience in all section of the design process. From ideation/consulting, concept generation, CAD, rendering, manufacturing drawings, development, prototyping, and full blown manufacturing. Im a pretty chilled person but it can get stressful when you know 300o units are going to be produced and every aspect relies on your drawings working perfectly! scary haha. Very enjoyable, and satisfying when it all works.

Here is a pic of the warehouse out the back of the design area, where we can prototype and manufacture.

Motorbike diaries

I have started going on motorbike "diaries". These involve riding long distances on my beautiful motorbike with a small group, seeing this beautiful country of mine. On the small occasions that we stop ive started taking picture, none will justice the beauty I experience cruising along the open road absorbing the astonishingly country side. Ill upload one panoramic I took on a bridge we rolled over. Stunning...... I have been to a a number on countries but my home, Australia is easily the most beautiful. enjoy

Fixation Disigns

Fixation Designs is soooooon to be! (comming very soon to a world wide web near you)

I'm on the edge of creating a multi-discipline design firm! This will mean good things to anyone with good ideas, be that product design or whatever your beautiful minds may conceive. Extreamly good news to any designers/artists. We here hope to change, even if slightly, the way that people design! Plan set.... Now time to work the fire, need to feed it, give it air then......... u will see :)

Mustang V2

Mustang V2 - shinny.
If you have any ideas you want to see in 3D, from things that would look kool, to design ideas that you think should be created let me know and we could build them together.
Got a problem lets solve it together :) Product design to the rescue!!!!!!

Car rendering, hard industry!

Trying to get good at rendering cars in hope that my folio broadens a connection of mine may come through.

Mustang rendering. I know its hard to make a mustang look bad but any feedback would be great. I'm trying to work on the tyres and the lights atm, they just don't look convincing to me. Going to dominate soon enough.

OK funs over time to rip it!

Outer ear
I've been working on a concept design for a while now, I entered it in a comp a few months back.
(Dyson awards)

A design that could potentially change the face of the deaf and hearing impaired community. (fingers crossed).

Up till a few weeks back it was just a enjoyable concept. Got a call from "The New Inventors". They want me to come in with my design to be on the show. SWWWWEEEEETTTTT, free trip to sydney and shiz. Minor problem, need a functioning prototype! Hmmm soo ive been flat out sourcing to get hold of someone to help me build this baby.

Here is what the pretty concepts look like :)
More on the progression in a bit, if you know any electrical engineers that would minded partaking in history, throw me an email!!

The robots been destroyed!!!!! ARRRR

I was talking to a good friend my mine the other day about situating products, and just for fun/a test for my robot, in some of his shots. This young talented man is Philip Vorlicek, photographer (philipvorlicek@hotmail.com). So while we on a trip together he took some beautiful panoramic's and natures shots. The fun begins. I used his shots to create a destroyed Robot mecha render.

Started with the background shot and placed the Bot's torso in situe.
Taken by Philip Vorlicek

I then created a HDR out of another one of Philip Vorlicek's panoramic shots..

This is the final image, very emotive. Probably the koolest one yet.

A broken robot left to rust over the ages, forgotten....

Stary Robotic night!!!

Milky way photo, beautiful! I will use this for my last render.
Slight problem, for the robot to keep its correct size it wont fit in the photo. To cut the leg off would look weird so I'm going to have to extend the background!!!!

Final result! :)

2nd Image - Front view!!!!!!!

Original Image. A closed off abandons room, prefect for the rugged, abandoned look for the sexy Bot
I placed my bot in the room, the lighting was really difficult, because there were no actual lights in the room so its hard to replicate a lighting direction.....
So i made the light come from the front top right.

Again the shadows were terrible for the situation, so I used the same trick as last time. Overlay :)

A few touch ups and brightness issues, and BAM!

3rd render coming next!

Composition Time!!

Original Image. Taken by Thomas Boulvin, tilted for easy rendering.

I modified the lighting and environment to get the best result out of the beaten up materials.

Modified the angle and rendered at a much high resolution...

Alot of thing were still very wrong with the render, i spent alot of time fixing up the imperfections in the metal. There were plenty of mistakes that occurred because the material wasn't made for mapping. I fixed the lines on the legs, changes some of the lighting on the leg so there were smooth shadows rather than harsh shadows. The main problem was the shadows, what i did was go back and render the same angle of my robot with no background as below. Cut him out and placed new, more intense shadows over the older render to kick out the shadows.
BAM, shadow are much better. no imperfection in the metals, I placed my logo on the wall, tried to make it look like graphite, and my email on the beam. 1st shot done! :)Next render time.......... hehe this is fun!

Making my Bot more aged and used (lolz)

So previously I said I wanted to make my bot more aged/ancient looking. Like some one has abandoned it after a life time of use.

So after researching a lot of materials i wanted to replicate I decided on complete rust with details showing through. Here is the result haha........

Love the rusted look but its not convincing, I want more raw metal thats been worked and used
Like this!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm defiantly going to work up this shot for sure!!!!!! I love this one! more in th next post!

Playing with the story!

I'm happy with my CAD model now so I want to create its story, figure out the best angles/best textures and environments to give him substance.

Playing with ideas.....

Conclusion, I want the bot to be less shinny and more aged, beaten up, left for a thousand years in a environment staying, waiting, idling till one day its found and useful again...... more exploration

What story do i want my mecha to have!

Now come the good bits!!! Picking and environment and textured for my Bot!!

Mother %^&$ PIMP. I started thinking I would place my bot in a war environment but reconsidered. I didn't put weapons on him, there is no need for him to be a symbol of aggression.

First test render, gun metal coloured crome details.!
Red = FAIL............. I added a glass cover to its face for more complexity and to allow this robot to have a visually working brain..... ooo

Yes dodgy glowing brain! I regret my choice here to make it glow!

Close up of the glowing brain concept! (still not a good idea..... had to make sure, sounded kool in my head..............)

Love the detail, went back to my CAD and allowed different textured to be placed on one body, thus allowing the orange details. Defiantly keeping these kinds of details.

Green = Fail so I stopped... haha

First happy test render! Gun metal grey, orange crome details, clear glass, placed in a non visible city environment (the reflections) Any question about anything just email me :)

Me liky! more comming up!

Problematic Back Leg!!!!!!!!!!

The back leg is not behaving, I was quiet adventures with the contours thus the surfaces are uneasy! Nice way of saying they are trying to push the boundaries in a bad way!

Ill fix the contours of the leg and move ot to the kooooool parts of the journey!

It looks like a pod racer atm

Ok, I fixed the bad surfaces on the body so I can put the two together!

Starting to loooooook PIMP!

Shown here in gun metal with coloured detail joints.

Tell me what u think!
